different learning styles into a way the students will understand. Teachers must have the ability to understand that diversity exists in cultural and language backgrounds, socioeconomic status, and different learning abilities. Effective teachers must create strategies and routines in their classrooms to prevent distractions and stay on task. As teachers, we all search for the right way to effectively teach our students and make a difference in their lives. In chapters 1, 2, and 3 it will help provide us ways to achieve this goal. There are many different ways to teach a classroom, and searching for the right method can be a difficult task that should be adjusted to the students needs. Standardized tests are placed to ensure that students are actually learning what they are taught. Researches have even observed the differences between effective teachers and noneffective teachers, which is known as the teacher effectiveness research. The objective of behaviorism is to determine how external events can affect student behavior. The cognitive perspective pays attention to the thought process of retrieving information. Cognitive psychology is significant through focusing on constructivism, which allows the students to develop their own understanding based on prior knowledge and social interaction. Pedagogical content knowledge is when effective teachers present information in a way that students will understand. It is important for students to not only understand the content, but also to know how to apply the knowledge to their everyday lives. Decision making allows the teacher to apply their professional judgment in choosing when, where, how, and why to use different ways of teaching.

Perri Amy Garrett September 9, 2013 ELED 300 Module 1 With more diversity in classrooms than ever before, it provides teachers with extra challenges and opportunities. Competency 2 focuses on the teacher recognizing the different ways to plan their assignments that are productive to each students diverse background. The appropriate approach to teaching students with language diversity is to accept and build upon it. There are different programs to help retain their native language while focusing on mastering English. There are many different types of learning abilities with all kinds of methods of approaching it. Some ways teachers adapt their instructions for these students are grouping, cooperative learning and peer tutoring. At risk students are at jeopardy of failing to accomplish their education with the necessary skills to survive. There are many contributions that can lead to weaken these students from learning such as health or economic problems. Teachers must become aware of the needs for these students and help them reach their full potential. Students with exceptionalities require additional help to reach their full potential. Teachers assist these students by promoting acceptance, identification, and changing instruction to meet their needs. There are several ways in which students learn in the classroom. Learning Styles show us that all students learn differently and that there is no one way to teach. Teachers must incorporate the effective ways their students learn into their instructions. This chapter relates to Competency 1 by understanding the process of development and applying it to teaching in a way that will inspire students to learn and adapting to their needs. Classroom Management is an important aspect of the learning

Perri Amy Garrett September 9, 2013 ELED 300 Module 1 environment to help eliminate stress and chaos and to ensure order that must be set from the beginning of the school year. It has been proven that students achieve more in safe and constructed classrooms. Classroom management is when the teacher has a plan for their classroom to run smoothly. Competency 5 stresses that the teacher knows how to provide a classroom that emphasizes the importance of learning and creates a physical and emotional classroom that is safe and productive. Classroom management and effective instruction are interdependent. Effective teachers should avoid rather than solve and should step in when there is disorderly behavior to keep their classroom on track. Competency 6 mentions that the teacher should know strategies for developing an organized and productive classroom to encourage positive student behavior. Setting rules is an example of competency 6, which provides standards for acceptable behavior in the classroom and provides a routine of the tasks they need to accomplish. When there is misbehavior it should be firmly addressed but as unobtrusive as possible.
