Grade 2 (2R & 2G) Homework (Week 7): Distributed: Friday, October 11th Due: Friday, October, 18th

1. Literacy: Read your leveled reading book aloud to your parents for 15-20 minutes per night. Remember to fill out your reading log. Turn in your Reading Log on Friday. 2. Spelling: Go to the Spelling City Website at: http://www.spellingcity.com/grade2bifs/ Then click on your Spelling List. Try one activity per night. There will be a spelling quiz on Friday. 3. Literacy: After each time you read this week, practice retelling the main events of your nightly reading to your parents. Here are good retelling Retelling Learning Targets for Grade 2 students to aim for: 1. I can determine what is important to tell when retelling a story. 2. I can retell the events of a story in sequence. 3. I can tell a story expressively, not using the words from the book exactly, but in my own words and voice. 4. I can retell a story with correct information. 4. Mad Minutes Ask your mom or dad to copy the addition worksheets which your teacher gave you recently. Practice a different Mad Minute sheet about 3-4 nights per week depending on how much or how little practice you need. Be prepared for a 1 minute quiz on Thursday or Friday of every week. 5. PYP: Our new PYP unit is related to Houses, Homes & Climates. *For the second homework assignment on this unit (the first was the houses and homes parent interview), we would like you to bring in one or two items from your home which shows something about your family, culture or home country. Be prepared to talk about the item(s) for 2 minutes. It may be a good idea to have an index card with notes to support your presentation. Optional Bonus Homework: (for stickers and/or prizes) Literacy: Recently, we have learned about similes and you will writing similes about nature during our trip to Haedong Yunggang Sa and Orangdae. Please create a poster with creative similies about ideas you generate and visualize at your home, neighborhood, a park, in Busan city, etc. Math: If A = 1; B = 2; C = 3; D = 4; E = 5 and so on Write the total value of some or all of your Spelling words. Please show your work in your HOMEWORK NOTEBOOK. Math: Create a few of your own math number, symbol or picture patterns on a poster. After each pattern write the rule or method/routine to solving that pattern. Example: for the pattern 2, 5, 8, 11, 14 the rule would be +3. Mathletics: Play Mathletics Live; Try Rainforest Math; Try the Problem Solving Tab on Mathletics.
