Print a copy of this assignment and take it to both of your tutor appointments. Turn in your tutor assignment with comments and signatures from the tutors. Tutor assignment sheets are due on Friday at the beginning of class.

Complete the activities below. Then, ask your tutor to sign his or her name and write the date. Ask him/her to write one suggestion for you to practice during the coming week. 1) Discuss the article Cross-Cultural Differences in How People Communicate by Ward, Bochner & Furnham with your tutor. Tell your tutor the main idea. Identify some of the supporting ideas. (10-15 minutes) 2) Ask your tutor about any words you dont understand in the article and practice saying them. See if you can find other uses for at least 5 of the words you discuss. (5-10 minutes) 3) Choose one paragraph from the article to read out loud to your tutor. Let him/her help you with pronunciation and with sentence stress/rhythm. Have your tutor read one or two sentences. Listen to how he/she reads it. Then try reading those sentences again. (5-10 minutes) 4) Discuss one idea that you found particularly interesting in the article with your tutor, and if you can, share an experience relating to that idea.

Write one paragraph about overcoming culture shock. Type the paragraph using Correct Format. Take your paragraph to your RWC tutor appointment and ask your tutor to help you with your organization and grammar. When you are finished, have your tutor stamp and sign below. Use the comments from your tutor to type a second draft of your paragraph. Attach your first draft (with tutor comments) AND your second draft to this assignment.
