8th Grade U.S. History

Grading:
Major Grades There will be a minimum of three test grades per six weeks. These tests (or projects) will account for 60% of each students six weeks average. If a student fails an exam, he/she must have the original signed by their parent in order to take a retest. (All retest are to be scheduled in advance and will be essay format. Students are not allowed to retest the same day a failing grade is handed back.) Daily Work Daily grades consist of classroom activities, homework, and quizzes. These assignments will account for 40% of the students six weeks grade.

Late Work:
If a student is absent, he/she will have the same number of days that they were absent to make up the missing assignment(s) for full credit. If a student is present and does not turn in an assignment, they will have a chance to turn it in but there will be 10 points deducted for every day that it is late. After 5 days the assignment will not be accepted. ** Projects that are given as a test grade will not be accepted late for any reason! Class Rules: 1. Be Prompt & Prepared
Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings. Bring all materials to class everyday. Do NOT stand in the doorway while waiting for class to start. Begin focus assignment and wait for further directions without talking. Turn in all assignments on time

2. Be Considerate
Keep hands and feet to yourself. Respect teacher and other students. (Bullying will not be tolerated) Keep student work center and your desk organized and clean. (Trash is not allowed in desk!!!) Do NOT curse or make rude gestures to anyone.

3. Follow Instructions
Get permission to speak. Gum, candy, and food will not be permitted. (Having any of these will result in a detention.) Cheating will result in a grade of zero. Follow school and district dress code. Follow the district Student Code of Conduct Policies. If you are absent, it is your job to ask for missing work. The bell does not dismiss you from class, the teacher does. Any Assignment turned in without a name on it will result in a grade of a zero.

4. Do Your Best
Violation of the above rules will result in the following: 1st Offense Warning 2nd Offense Warning and phone call/email home/writing a paragraph 3rd Offense Detention 4th Offense Office Referral * If a student gets two referrals, they will not be allowed to return to the classroom until a parent conference is held with the parents and Administrator.

* Too often we have seen students hesitate to answer a question or offer an idea because they did not
want to be made fun of by others. In our classrooms, we do not tease or insult others. We learn by making mistakes and asking questions. The consequence for making fun of another person is an automatic detention.
