sex-linked-yellow-cheek cockatiels

Origin: Sex-Linked Yellowcheek is the tenth established mutation. Bruno Rehm in Germany established the Sex-linked (SLYC) Yellowcheek mutation during the early 1990s. Elsie Burgin, Nancy Rocheleau and Dave Okura legally imported this mutation into the United State in 1992. Breeders soon combined yellowface with other mutations.

SLYC, works like any of the Sex-linked mutations (Lutino, Cinnamon and Pearl) when breeding them. In order to get visual SLYC of both sexes both parents must carry the gene. For example, you can pair 2 visuals together, or a visual to a split to SLYC. Like other sex-linked mutations, only the cocks will inherit the split to SLYC. If a split to SLYC cock is paired with any non-YC hen only the daughter will be visual YC and some of the sons may inherit the split. According to Wendy Labanca the SLYC are a tough mutation to work with. I've done plenty of day ones and fosters to get where I have. I do have one hen that sits just like any other hen. Most of my other hens do sit 3/4 of the time. I love the challenge most shy away from with these mutations. It's worth it to me. I have a Grand Champion SLYC hen.
