STORY TELLING WORKSHOP: DAY 1

Ultimate Question: kung marunong nang magbasa yung bata, bakit kailangan
pang mag-story telling?
 There is a difference between “read-aloud” and storytelling
Story telling...
1. Sparks imagination
a. image of the match, a spark is a prerequisite for a fire
b. imagination is different from knowledge, which is limited
2. Improves listening skills
3. Trains comprehension skills
4. Adds words to vocabulary, especially Filipino words, when the story is in
Filipino
5. Inculcates values.
What you need to know before story telling:
1. Audience (age, number, social status)
2. Story: (plot, setting, character, illustrations)
3. Venue: (get to know your venue so that you know what strategies to take)
Tools:
1. Book
a. pero kahit walang book, effective pa rin ang story telling
b. may proper ways of handling a book
2. voice
a. narrator
i. say then act high

Low voice
i. High 1&2: malungkot
1. Kids 3: narrator’s voice
2. Babae 4&5: Masaya, excited
3. Maliliit na hayop/bagay *1=normal conversational

i. Eyes, most important
ii.Eye contact, may beat: 1,2,3.
iii.Hanapin yung batang nawawala na yung attention and get
his/her attention back by eye contact.

Process:
1. Introduction
a. Start pa lang, capture their attention, parang pasalubong, maraming
pasakali, excite them
b. Read and study several times
c. Characters, title, author, illustrator
2. Story telling proper
a. Voices, with excited tone
b. Pwedeng ipakita yung picture, pero wag lagi, pumili lang ng ipapakita
c. Wag masyado magtanong every page, piliin lang din.
3. Ending/ conclusion
a. Lessons
b. 1-2min
c. Kailangan suggestive
d. Sabihin ulit title ng book
