The poem I Wonder is a poem about a rather

intelligent and perceptive child who is curious about her surroundings. In this poem, the child is curious about the elements of nature. Throughout the poem, the child's inquisitiveness is displayed through her questions about things around us.

Couplet 1

I wonder why the grass is green And why the wind is never seen

The persona is wondering about her surroundings

and questions why the grass is green and not other colour. The persona also wonders why she cannot see the wind although she can feel it.

Couplet 2

Who taught the birds to build a nest, And told the trees to take a rest?
the birds to build a nest and how do the trees know when to stop growing.

She is curious and continues to wonder who taught

Couplet 3

O, when the moon is not quite around, Where can the missing bit be found
fully seen, wondering where the other half is hiding.

She continues to ask about the moon when it is not

Couplet 4

Who lights the star, when they blow out, And makes the lightning flash about?
them out in the day and who makes the lightning flash about.

She wonders who lights the stars at night and blows

Who paints the rainbow in the sky, And hangs the fluffy clouds so high?

This poem is first person point of view. The speaker is young child who curious and

observant about nature.
