ABSTRACT THE EFFECT OF MICROWAVE OVEN RADIATION ON FETAL REAR EXTREMITIES MALFORMATION OF MICE (Mus musculus L.

) By NORA RAMKITA

Using tech equipment such as microwave ovens began to tune its use at this time. Beyond practicality, apparently microwave oven also received attention primarily on the impact of radiation on health. It is known that microwave radiation capable of causing teratogen effects on the fetus.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of microwave oven radiation on fetal rear extremities malformation of mice (Mus musculus L.). Exposure were taken from 2450 MHz microwave oven. Parameters observed form the calcaneal to the phalanges of mice (Mus musculus L.). This study is an experimental study with 20 pregnant mices were given exposure microwave oven radiation at a distance of 0.5 cm from the radiation source with a long exposure per day 0 min (P1); 15 minutes (P2), 30 minutes (P3), and 45 minutes (P4) for 18 days gestation.

Analysis of the results using a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 5 repetitions. Quantitative data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by Mann Whitney test analysis.

The results showed that P1 (control group) found the average the rear extremity length of fetal mice of 2.64 0.093, P2 of 2.38 0.282, P3 of 2.18 0.136, and P4 of 1.88 0.253. The results obtained by the Kruskal-Wallis test p <0.05, with p = 0.000, it means that there is a significant difference in at least two treatment groups.

Microwave oven radiation exposure can reduce the rear extremity length of fetal mice (Mus musculus L.) of 0.76 mm. Proved that the radiation of the microwave oven has an influence on fetal rear extremitites malformation of mice ( Mus musculus L.).
