1. Determine the number of atoms present in a level teaspoon of aluminum powder A. In order to determine the number of atoms present in a level teaspoon of aluminum powder, the mass of one teaspoon of aluminum powder must be collected. This can be done by initially measuring the mass of one plain teaspoon in grams. Next, put enough aluminum powder on the spoon so that it completely fills up the spoon. Measure the mass of the (teaspoon + aluminum powder) in grams. Subtract the mass of the plain teaspoon from the mass of the (teaspoon + aluminum powder) to get the mass of the aluminum powder in grams. Using the molar mass of Aluminum, and Avogadro's number, perform dimensional analysis to get the number of atoms present in a level teaspoon of aluminum powder. B. Mass of one teaspoon: 1.852 grams Mass of teaspoon + aluminum powder: 6.199 grams Mass of one teaspoon of aluminum powder: 6.199 grams - 1.852 grams = 4.347 grams C.

Concluding Statement: 9.699 * 1022 atoms / level teaspoon

2. Determine how many level teaspoons of iron are needed to find 1.00 mol of iron powder 1. A. In order to determine how many level teaspoons of iron are needed to find 1.00 mol of iron powder, the mass of one teaspoon of iron filings must be collected. This can be done by initially measuring the mass of one plain teaspoon in grams. Next, put enough iron filings so that it completely fills up the spoon. Measure the mass of the (teaspoon + iron filings in grams). Subtract the mass of the teaspoon from the mass of the (teaspoon + iron filings) to get the mass of the iron filings in grams. Using Iron's molar mass, perform dimensional analysis to determine how many level teaspoons of iron are needed to find 1.00 mol of iron powder. B. Mass of one teaspoon: 1.852 grams Mass of teaspoon + iron filings: 12.615 grams Mass of iron filings: 10.763 grams C.

Concluding Statement: Approximately 5.19 teaspoons of iron are needed to find 1.00 mol of iron powder.

2

A. First, measure the length, and width of a piece of zinc foil. Calculate the area of the piece of zinc foil by multiplying the length by the width. Now mass the piece of zinc foil. Using the molar mass of Zinc, and Avogadro's number, perform dimensional analysis to find the number of atoms in 2.00 cm of zinc metal.

B. Length of Zinc metal: 12.25 cm Width of Zinc metal: 0.87 cm Area of zinc metal: 10.7 cm Mass of Zinc metal: 1.212 grams

C.

Concluding Statement: Approximately 2.09 * 1021 atoms of Zinc/2.00 cm2 of zinc metal.

In order to determine what length of copper wire is needed to provide 2.00 mol of copper, measure the mass of any length of copper wire. Using the molar mass of Copper perform dimension analysis to determine what length of copper wire needed to provide 2.00 mol of copper.

B. Length of copper wire: 9.07 cm Mass of copper wire: 1.666 grams C.

Concluding Statement: Approximately 692 cm of copper wire is needed to provide 2.00 mol of copper. Pictures:
