LONG FORM LESSON PLAN TEMPLATE 4

Name: Dionetta Piazzo Algebra Date: 4/8/13

Content Area(s)

Grade(s): 9th

Learning Goal(s) REI) (Content Standard) Instructional Objectives I can:

Reasoning with Equations and Inequalities (A-

Solve inequalities with one variable Plot inequalities on a number line Assessment (Criteria/Look Fors) Students will be informally assessed by successfully completing the notecard task they are given. Students would be formally assessed by competing their homework problems. Materials Time (Total & Specific) Overhead projector, note cards, math books 50 Minutes 7 Minutes for warm up activity 15 Minutes for instruction 15 Minutes for activity 10 Minutes for homework 3 Minutes for closure

Instruction Procedures Introduction Demonstration Participation Practice Introduction: Warm Up activity (7 Min) Fill in the blank: 7 ____ 4, 3____ 5, 1 1/2 ____ 1 3/4, Steps for instruction Tie warm up into instruction (2 Min) Show how to plot on number line with open or closed holes (5 Min)

Instruct on one variable inequalities (8 Min) Give students the instructions on Tic Tac Math activity (15 Min) Students will play Tic Tac Math to get a tic tac toe on the worksheets They can help each other if they get stuck on problems Student will have time to start their 5.5 worksheet and finish their exit cards (10 Min) Closure (3 Min) Questions What does inequality mean? Equality sounds like....equal. In means...lack of. The open circle would mean include or not include? Then a closed circle would mean what? What did we learn about the direction of the small side of the arrow in regards to the number line? Academic Language Focus Inequalities, Greater than, Less than, Greater than and equal to, Less than and equal to, Number line, Open or closed circle These will be defined in our notes. Closure Give one example of a symbol we learned about today..(student)? Give me one examples of safe things we can do to an inequality (student)? Give me one example of an unsafe thing we can do to an inequality (student)? Student Accommodations I would have two versions of the Tic Tac Math. One with slightly varied equations for those students that struggle with time or simple math equations. Also for the Notes portion I may have notes already typed for them but missing examples or specific words that they need to fill in. For the exit card I would have them marked for their level. Circle around the number would be hard, a box would be medium, and a triangle would be easy. Hand them out accordingly.
