October 23, 2013 Ken Cuccinelli c/o Cuccinelli for Governor 10560 Main Street Suite218 Fairfax, VA 22030

Dear General Cuccinelli, Gun violence is a public health threat that is devastating our communities. Every day, more than 80 Americans die as the result of gun violence. Virginia is not immune from this epidemic. The tragedy at Virginia Tech in 2007 is only the most high profile illustration of the impact of gun violence on our communities. For this reason, Virginia families across the Commonwealth strongly support common sense public safety measures to prevent gun violence. Eighty-eight percent of Virginians believe gun owners should be required to pass a background check before they can purchase a gun and 91% of Virginia gun households agree.1 Virginia voters deserve to know where you stand on this critical issue. This year, you filled out a survey for the Virginia Citizens Defense League, a radical pro-gun organization that describes itself as being to the right of the National Rifle Association. VCDL subsequently endorsed your candidacy. In order to make an informed decision on November 5th, Virginia voters demand the same information you provided to VCDL, detailing your positions on gun policy and explaining how you will act to prevent gun violence in our Commonwealth. Attached, you will find a list of 1,323 Virginia residents who have requested you publicly release your VCDL survey. We look forward to your prompt attention to this matter and to reviewing your survey responses as soon as possible. Sincerely, ProgressVA Coalition to Stop Gun Violence And the attached individuals
