Legendary events!
Bran Castle was originally a fortress built by the Knights of the Teutonic Order in the year 1212. It was known by the name of Dietrich stein at the time. Later on, towards the end of the 13th century, it was taken over by the Saxons in that region in order to protect the City of Brasov, an important trade center. Vlad Tepes used Bran Castle as headquarters for his incursions into Transylvania. This castle should not be mistaken for the actual Castle Dracula (now in ruins), which is located on the Arges River

History on the Bran Castle

The Bran castle was built in 1212. the fortress is situated on the boarder between Transylvania and Wallachia. The bran castle is more commonly known as Dracula's Castle. In 1212 the Teutonic Knights built the wooden castle as a for fitted position in the Burgenland. But in 1242 it was destroyed by the Mongols. The first time the bran castle was mentioned was by Louis I of Hungary on November 19, 1377. In 1438-1442 the castle was used as a defense against the Ottoman Empire and then later on became customs post on the mountain pass. In 1533 the city of Brasov gained possession of the castle when King Vladislas 11 did not repay his loans. And in 1920 the castle became a royal resident with the kingdom of Romania. It became the favorite home of Queen Marie. In 1948 the castle was seized by the communist regime with the expulsion of the royal family. And in 2005 the Romainan government passed a special law allowing restitution. So a year later the castle was awarded ownership to Dominic von Habsburg the son of princess lleana.
