The most accurate definition of domestic conflict would be any disturbance in ones home or neighborhood that leads them to fear for their life or well-being. The problem with domestic conflict is that it can be harmful to ones physical and mental states, as well as holding one back from prosperity and happiness. In order to end this trend, the government should be able to intervene in domestic conflict. One reason that the government should be able to intervene in domestic conflict is that it has negative repercussions in government-funded institutions such as public schools. When a child has violence occurring at home, or feels their parent doesnt care about them, they are more likely to withdraw during class, or lose motivation to do well in school due to lack of parental encouragement. For example, in the non-fiction book There Are No Children Here, many of the kids living in the projects dont go to school, and those who do often drop out at an early age. This lack of motivation to stay in school is an effect of the violence occurring in their neighborhood, which introduces them to a life of crime at a young age, placing many of the children in jails or gangs instead of finishing out their educations. In addition, 90% of the students at Bunche High School in Oakland have had a run-in with the juvenile detention system. This displaces them from school. Many of the students were suspended for lashing out at classmates or teachers, because they have violent situations going on at home or in their neighborhood that cause them to be angry. If the government is spending good money on funding public schools, they should want the students to get the most out of their education, rather than letting domestic conflict lead them astray. Therefore, the government should put a stop to this terrible occurrence. On the contrary, the government occasionally overreaches its bounds while trying to take action, often in an ineffective or overly-strict way. An example of this could be the government forcing prisoners to perform manual labor that often benefits the government. This selfish act includes having the prisoners make license plates so that government funds dont go towards paying someone else to make them. The government has also overstepped when dealing with domestic violence in the past. My aunt Suzie was in an abusive relationship in college, and the court had placed a no-contact order on her boyfriend. In order to get closure, Suzie wanted to talk to him once more time in person so that she could move on, but the government system would not allow it. She felt that the government had overstepped its boundaries by nudging its way into her personal affairs. In addition, 85% of kids moved into foster homes say that they would rather live with their real parents rather than the homes the government has placed them in. this shows that the government should reassess the actions that they take when dealing with certain situations.

However, despite the overstepping of government actions, it is its obligation to protect U.S. citizens. For example, sometimes children being moved into foster care is beneficial to them, even if the change is hard to cope with at first. In the movie The Blind Side, Michael is taken from his home in which he lived under the care of his drug-addicted mother, and moved into a better life with a family who wanted to see him prosper. He was able to turn his life around, and eventually become a very successful football player. In addition, it is the governments constitutional duty to give citizens life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, just as stated in the Declaration of Independence. The governments obligation to fulfill these rights includes putting an end to domestic violence, which strips individuals of these rights, which are said to be inalienable. The government ending domestic conflict will end the cycle for future generations. They can do this by funding domestic interventions in which an expert talks with families and neighborhoods and tries to fix certain issues before deciding if they must place a child in foster care, or an adult in prison.
