Reading Objectives
Ask and answer questions about key details and to clarify word meaning Recognize sentence parts: first word, capital, punctuation Isolate and pronounce beginning, middle and ending sounds in single syllable words Use clues such as beginning letter, known sight words, pattern of text to decode unknown words.

homework tasks listed at the bottom of the weekly student list to practice the tricky words and word families. You may use lined paper to write the sentences. Please read to/with your child each night for at least 15-20 minutes. Talk about the story with him/her. Ask questions: Who was the main character in the story? What was the setting?What happened in the beginning,middle and end?Then have your child write about a story each night.

Writing Objectives
Use spelling strategies such as: word stretching, roller coaster, finger spelling, word wall, reread Use spaces between words. Tell a story with a beginning, middle and ending sentence. Start to add some details. Use an editing checklist to revise a story and publish it.
