RAUC (S) NATIONAL CORING PROGRAMME 2008:

PRESS RELEASE

The Roads Authorities and Utilities Committee (Scotland), RAUC (S), has completed
the Sixth National Coring Programme on a random sample of Undertakers road works
reinstatements. The cores were taken from Undertakers reinstatements, completed
between 01/07/07 and 30/06/08. The results indicate that whilst there has been a
welcome improvement in core sample compliance a significant number of failures
continue to exist.

The Roads Authorities and Undertakers are once again disappointed in the results
given that the Undertakers have invested heavily in improvement measures. The
Undertakers will be further developing their improvement plans in the immediate
future, which will be intensively monitored by them, to ensure that the improvement
objectives are met.

All Undertakers remain committed to working together with the Roads Authorities to
improve performance in their reinstatement work.
