Accommodations: For the students who need extra help, I will help them to write their sentence on their paper. For students that have auditory and visual disabilities, I will move them to the front of the rug so they can hear and see better. I will pay particular attention to one particular student in the class (Kemarion). He is waiting to be tested and has trouble in class. Materials: 1. Smart Board 2. Authority Figure Cards 3. Pencils 4. Matching Sheet 5. Writing Paper Procedures: 1. I will call students to the rug.

After we have discussed what authority means, we will talk about who the authority figures are in their home, school and community. (Parents, Grandparents, Older Brother/Sister, Teacher, Principal, Custodian, School Bus Driver, Policeman, Fireman, Postal Worker) a. I wonder who works in our home, school and community that are authority figures. 5. After we have all of the Figure Cards up, we will talk about what each person does. 6. Once they have all been discussed, I will tell the students about the short matching activity. 7. I will explain the directions to the matching activity to the students. a. Write your name at the top of your paper. b. I want you to draw a line from the Authority Figure to one of the three pictures on the side. I want you to show me where each Authority Figure works. c. I will then go over each Authority Figure and the Work Places while showing the pictures on the matching sheet. 8. The students will complete the matching activity; it should not take them very long. 9. After the students have completed the matching activity I will tell the students about the next part of the lesson. 10. I will ask the students if the know who Ms. Daisy is; Ms. Daisy is the custodian for the hall that our classroom is on. 11. I will then tell that students that I was thinking that we could write Ms. Daisy thank you letters for taking care of our classroom. 12. I will tell them that I will take all the entire letters home and put them together and they can give them to Ms. Daisy on Thursday when I return. 13. I will then bring up the paper on the smart board and tell the class that we are going to write the letter together. 14. The whole class will help me to write the letter, I will lead and make sure the letter makes sense and that it is not too long. 15. Before the paper is handed out, I will remind students that I want to see their best hand writing, capital letters, finger spacing and punctuation. 16. Once the letter is written that students will then get a sheet of paper to copy the letter. 17. While students are writing, I will walk around the room monitoring their progress. 18. Once students have finished, I will collect them to put together to give to Ms. Daisy on Thursday. 19. On Thursday, I will pull Ms. Daisy into the classroom and tell her about our lesson and the booklet of letters that the students wrote her. I will be handing Ms. Daisy the booklet so there is not any fighting between the students about who got to give it to her. Activity Analysis: Matching Sheet: I am using this to see if the students know which authority figure is in the home, school or the community. Letter: I am doing the letter to have the students show gratitude to an authority figure. References: There were no references used for this lesson.
