Students can build on their own knowledge and share different ideas with peers. This will allow for students to gain new perspectives on the same topic and solidify their understanding. Students receive a prompt or question and independently write down some initial ideas, then discuss these ideas with their neighbor, and finally share with the class these ideas. Cause & Affect Notes helps students to understand very interlocked relations between events, people, and ideas. This activity allows students to see history, not as single moments, but as a timeline of influenced events or ideas. Primary Source Analysis is a fun exercise that involves students directly handling sources and ideas from the events. Students will be given a variety of resources, including video, photo, speech, literature, or any other primary source, and be asked to analyze and interpret the information. Students would make a quick written response and then the source would be discussed as a class or in small groups. Oral Questioning is a great tool to be used throughout the lecture to ensure student comprehension. Throughout important aspects of the lecture, students would be given questions regarding the details of the lectures and information. This promotes students to pay attention throughout the class and strengthen their note taking skills by becoming better able to recognize important points in the lecture. The in class Quiz will test the students knowledge, focus throughout the class, and ability to stay on task in the class assignments. Students will be asked to identify important civil rights organizations, their actions and goals in the movement.

The Timeline assignment allows students to organize and detail the important events throughout the Civil Rights Movement. By visualizing the events linearly, students are better able to understand the influence that later events were affected by. This assignment also allows students to their creativity by displaying photos and others visuals on a poster board. Video Project is a fun and interactive projects that promotes comprehension, creativity, and the use of technology. Students will be expected to use the technology of their choice, including SlideRocket, Wiki site, Youtube Video, or any other visual aid of the students choice. The student will be expected to explain or describe an event, idea, or life of an individual involved in the Civil Rights Movement. This assignment is open to interpretation by the student and all topics must include a proposal and confirmation by the teacher.
