Here at Jewett, we take bullying very seriously. We want kindergarten to be an enjoyable time for all students, and school to be a place where students feel safe. We have had several lessons about what it means to be bullied, and what to do if you feel that you are. Here is the protocol we abide by: 1) If someone has hurt you or another student, tell a teacher immediately. Do not use physical contact to solve the problem or you may get in trouble too. 2) If another student is bothering you (teasing, name calling, or just doing something you dont like) say to them in a strong big voice, Please STOP, I do NOT like that. If it stops, you dont have to tell a teacher. 3) If you asked them to stop and they did not stop, or they have done this to you before, go tell a teacher. I want students and parents to feel comfortable coming to be with their concerns. Please discuss these expectations with your students. Please remind them about appropriate school behaviors, and check in with them daily to see how they are doing. Green or better will have a hand stamp. If they dont have a hand stamp please discuss their behavior choices for the day, and how they can make better choices the next school day.

Although we do not yet have formal homework packets, please read with your child each night and ask them what they learned today. Ask them about the Letter of the Week, what sound it makes, and how to write both the capital and lowercase forms of each letter. Ask if they know some words that BEGIN with that letter/sound.. Knowing about what is the beginning, middle and ending sound can take a while. Also help your child practice writing their first name as well as practicing counting aloud to at least 35 this trimester (goal of counting aloud to 100 by the end of the year).
