E Pluribus Unum
This is the motto of the USA. It is Latin for Out of Many, One In other words, we are many different states, but one country. It also refers to all the different cultures in the USA making one united country.

Racism Sexism Ageism Bias Gender Disabilities Religion Lifestyles Nationality Physical Appearance

Racism
Racism refers to discrimination against someone because of their race. Racism is a worldwide problem and it leads to violence, prejudice, and oppression.

Sexism
This the belief that one gender is superior to another. Women have been commonly discriminated against.

Ageism
Ageism is Stereotyping and prejudice against individuals or groups because of their age. Senior citizens, teenagers, and children often feel this type of discrimination.

Bias
In theory, bias is a term used to describe a preference to a particular belief, which means all information and point of views has some form of bias. A person is generally said to be biased if the person's decisions are influenced by inner biases.

Disability Discrimination
Many people are discriminated against because of a physical and mental handicap. Congress has passed numerous laws protecting people who suffer from disabilities.

Religious Discrimination
The 1st Amendment to the US Constitution states that the government will not establish a religion and everyone is free to exercise any religion they want. But, many people are discriminated against because of their beliefs.

Lifestyle Discrimination
Some people in the USA live alternate lifestyles or lifestyles that are different from the norm. These people are oftentimes discriminated against. Can you think of any?

Nationality Discrimination
Some people are discriminated against because of the country they are from. Many Arab nations face this problem today.

Physical Appearance
Some people are discriminated against because of the way the look, dress, or present themselves. Can you think of an example?

Multicultural

Melting Pot Theory


People of different cultures, races and religions are combined into one society. The term, which originates from the United States, is often used to describe societies experiencing large scale immigration from many different countries.

Tossed Salad Theory


This is the theory that the USA is not really a melting pot. Many claim it is more like a salad with different parts combined into one. Croutons, cucumbers, lettuce, cheese, dressing, whatever. They are all different and individual, but combined they make up one great salad!
