Learning Objectives By the end of the lesson you should be able to: Develop a method for multiplying mixed numbers Develop a method for dividing mixed numbers Solve real world problems by dividing and multiplying fractions Differentiated Strategies to Meet Diverse Learner Needs: This lesson is design to be more student lead than teacher lead. At many points during the lesson I have the students discussing amongst themselves the reasoning they have for what they did or wrote. At this time the students who are excelling with have the opportunity to help the students who are struggling. At the same time there is plenty of time for guided instruction where I can go around and help students who did not fully get the concepts during the lesson. In addition, during the real world problem I ask for the students to draw a visual example of what the problem is asking to help students who need to see the reason behind the math. Material Projector Smartboard Textbook Elmo Procedures Students will enter class and begin working on their daily morning assignments FDP (Fraction Decimal Percent), 1 Word Problems, Number Sense, and Weekly Homework Students who complete their tasks before the rest of the class can read and take AR tests during this time. Have a student present their guide and make the changes needed to make it robust. Use the guide to solve the previous problem. Write the following problem "An electrician needs to buy 8 1/2 feet of electrical wire. There are 4 1/4 feet of wire on each spool. How many spools of wire should the electrician buy?"
