PTC - Job report - Free hanging piling

Two PTC Vibrodrivers building the 3rd quay of the port of Lom, Togo.
Bollor Africa Logistics awarded VINCI the contract to build the 3rd container berth in the port of Lom, in Togo. The works, worth 42.5m, will be carried out by a consortium composed of three Group subsidiaries: Soletanche Bachy (leader), Sogea-Satom and EMCC.
The project centres on the construction of a third 450m wharf with a depth alongside of 15m. Its construction will require 1,900,000 m3 of dredging works. The project will make way for the installation of the quay equipment, crane and gantry rails.

Soletanche Bachy and EMCC have both chosen to work with PTC pile driving equipment. Works started in May 2012 should take 18 months to complete. Soletanche Bachy is in charge of installing a 150 m combined wall (AU sheet piles and casings). The 18m long casings were driven with PTC 120HD Vibrodriver and the 16m long AU sheet piles were driven with IHC S-70 hydraulic hammer. The sheet piles were aligned to the casings at 2m above the sea level. EMCC is building the anchor wall, which is 30 m behind the main wall (combi wall). For this work, the contractor has chosen a PTC 65HD Vibrodriver to drive the 16 m long AZ sheet piles. Future ship-to-shore rail mounted gantry crane Due to poor soil conditions, the combined wall will be tied back to the anchor wall through various tie rods connecting both walls. Then concrete will be poured between the walls to allow the installation of the new ship-to-shore rail mounted gantry crane.
