PTC - Job report - Ground improvement

A PTC SC13 rig working in a stone columns job site, France.

FRANKI, a well-known French foundation contractor, installed 375 stone columns in Vulbens near Annecy. The stone columns improved the soils bearing capacity, prior to the construction of a 6-storey high apartment building.
To do this job rapidly, the all-in-one machine for stone columns, the PTC SC13 rig, was sent to the jobsite equipped with Vibrolance VL18 BFS. The SC13 was transported in one piece with the Vibrolance mounted, so when it arrived on the jobsite the SC13 was ready to start working in 2 hours. It only required the installation of the Skip and the air compressor. The SC13s Bottom Feed System (BFS) allowed Franki Fondations to continuously feed the gravel from the Vibrolance tip and to compact the column without any interruption of the cycle. The SC13 intelligent monitoring system also permitted a precise control of the length, the diameter, and the verticality of the stone column, guaranteeing the quality of the job done.

KEY FACTS
Up to 200 linear meters

of stone columns per day. 400 mm stone column diameter.

The stone columns had a diameter of 400mm and 55 stone columns per day a depth varying from 1.5m up to 4m. The columns were installed following a square grid of 1.5m x 1.5m The productivity of the SC13 rig is remarkable. and in certain zones the grid was of 2 x 2m. Franki realized an average of 55 stone columns/day, working only 8 hours a day with a team of only 3 workers. This is equivalent to a daily production of 150 to 200 linear meters.
