Argentina

The Argentine Republic is situated in the extreme south of South America. It is the largest country among Spanish-speaking nations. The official population estimate is of 40,091,359 people. The total surface area is 2,766,891.2 km2. The general climate is temperate but it ranges from subtropical in the north to subpolar in the far south.

Argentina is constituted as a federation of 23 provinces and an autonomous city, Buenos Aires. It s a presidential representative democratic republic. Executive power is exercised by the President. Legislative power is vested in both houses of the National Congress. The Judiciary is independent from the Executive and from the Legislature.

Since December 2007, the current president is Cristina Fernndez de Kirchner, Argentinas first elected female president.

Noroeste, with the SubAndean sierras and fertile valleys Noreste, the humid, subtropical and verdant area in the northeast

Patagonia, oil-rich southern plateaus
