Miss Schwartzs 5th grade math expectations

Welcome 5th grade students and parents. I am very happy to announce our first ever-online course for math. We will e using our fraction unit to launch our online course. !his course will e taught oth in the classroom as well as online. We call this a hy rid course. Overview Students will use their math class to learn in the classroom. "s you #now$ students also have an extra math class during the school wee#. %ne of the activities during extra math is laptop time. Students will e expected to access this course during their laptop time. !he course we site is as followed and can e accessed oth at home and at school& http&''schwartzmath.wee ly.com' Hybrid Course !his class will e taught oth online and in the classroom. %ur online sessions will allow you to start learning a out fractions. (ou will learn how to add different types of fractions. !he online sessions will also allow you to practice the s#ills you will e learning oth at home and at school. )uring our face-to-face sessions we will dig deeper into fractions and wor# with the Waterford School )istrict curriculum specifically. Learning Objectives Students will be able to add fractions with the same denominator and different denominators. Students will also learn how to simplify fractions. Communication policy Students and parents are a le to communicate with me in two different ways. !he first way is to email me directly& Schwa *+,wsdmi.org subject: Fractions online. !he other way is using the course site directly. Students will e expected to communicate with their peers as well. 1nder the ta -Share your thoughts/ I have posted a list of 0uestions and topics. Students are expected to post their thoughts every time they access the site in school. !heir post could include any of the following& o 2osting a thought to a 0uestion listed o 2osting their own 0uestion to the -share your ideas/ ta o 3esponding to a students post with their thoughts Technology requirements Students are expected to have access to the Internet. I will provide Internet access during school hours. Students are also expected to wor# on a computer that has word. "ll school laptops and computers have word on them. Students should ring their grid paper note oo# to each class with them. Required te t !here is no re0uired text for this course. "ny text I will provide during our face-to-face sessions. Class procedures Students will have 4 individual lessons. Students will also have practices activities they can do online. I have provided practice activities students can download and print or write out. !hey will also have at least one homewor# assignment 5show me what you can do6 that they will e expected to turn into class. !rading policy Students will get graded on the posting at least once every time they access

the course online. Students will also have various assignments during their face-to-face class that will factor into their grade. 8inally$ students will have a variety of assessments oth online and in class. %nline assessments can e found in the -Show me what you can do section/ of each lesson.
