My Classroom Discipline Plan Hannah Chlystek Elementary Education

Rules and Consequences

A. General Rules: Respect the teacher and fellow classmates Treat others as you would like to be treated No talking when I am teaching Raise your hand if have a question Be sure your area around your desk is clean and things are put away You may only use restroom before school, at lunch or recess, and after school. You may fill your water bottle at lunch or recess, never during class or when I am teaching. No talking when we are in the hallways. Keep your hands to yourself and by your side when in hallway.

B. Consequences: For every rule that is not being followed, I will give a warning to that child. If the behavior continues, I will cross out a smiley on their desk. Each student has 3 smileys on their desk. For each smiley that is crossed off, it does not get entered into a drawing at the end of the day. They put their names on the smileys. Every smiley that is not crossed off will be put in a bag to be drawn for a prize which could be no shoes for a day, extra time on iPad, etc.

C. Statement: These consequences are used with my rules because they have a chance to fix their mistake after the first time. All the rules are understandable and can be done. When disobeying the rule, they have to accept a consequence for their action. The rules are posted in the classroom in a clear spot where they can see it.

Expectations in the Classroom

A. Management and Organization: My goal for student behavior is to have a controlled and fun learning environment with no distractions. Everyone should be listening when one talks and respecting what they say. Students can help others only when finished with their own work. My goal for planning is to always have the week planned out. Copies should be made and ready for the next week. Materials for the week should be in each drawer for the appropriate day of the week. If a student is closer to the material then I, I will ask the student to bring it to me. This helps with organization so we can keep flowing with the assignment at hand. My goal for student relationships is to build a relationship that will make them feel safe in the classroom. I want them to feel excited to learn and have trust in me. I am their teacher, not their friend.

B. Expectations of the Teacher: Be sure you go over directions for each assignment given to students Walking around during work time to answer questions Always being positive Being enthusiastic about learning Showing your love for reading toward the students

C. Expectations of the Students: Try their best in every assignment or activity Follow my instructions Report problems to the teacher Being respectful to each other Listening when I am talking or other classmates

Procedures and Routines

First: For beginning of class, the students are to walk in, make their lunch choice, and go to their seat. Everyday they are to fill out their planner in the morning. There are boards in the back for each subject and what the assignment is for the day. After the students have filled out their planner, they are to start doing their morning meeting math. This consists of questions about calendar, number line, clocks, problem of the day, etc.

Second: After giving time to work on morning meeting math, we will go over each section of the morning meeting. If need a ruler or manipulative, they can get up but return to their seats right away. Students may not go to the bathroom or get a drink when I am teaching.

Third: Before leaving classroom, always tell me first. For bathroom behavior, students are to take the bathroom pass, do their business, wash their hands, and come back to the classroom. Only one boy and one girl can go at a time. When the one returns, the next student may go if needed. For drinking fountain, only one child, whether girl or boy may go to the drinking fountain at a time. If need to go to the office, take the office pass and come back to the classroom.

Fourth: Students are free to move around to get in a good learning position for every assignment, unless I specify they have to stay at their desks. Students cant sharpen pencils because it is disrupting to me and other students. Every student can raise their hand and say something pertaining to the problem if would like. If it is something unrelated, the student cant share it but tell me after the lesson. If have something to turn in, student can put in the basket during transition times.

Fifth: Down time is where the students are working on the assignment or finishing an assignment. Students are working individually and concentrating on their work. If get done early, students have the choice to read silently or draw to relax their minds. Students are to turn in their assignment when finished to the basket on the shelf. All turn in work will go in this basket. Transition time is the time between finishing an assignment and starting a new one. Students should be silently getting materials out for the next lesson. Any assignments done can be turned into the basket at this time. As the teacher, I should be getting ready for the assignment, pulling any materials needed out and getting technology ready if using.

Sixth: When getting toward the end of the day, students who did not finish the assignment can either put in their purple folder or put on center table. The purple folder has two pockets, one for keep at home papers and the other return to school papers. Depending on the assignment, the teacher will say which one it goes into. Students are to pull their planners out so we can go over the day. I will say to put either a check mark or HW for homework next to the item. After planners are done, the students are to put their smileys that are not crossed out into the bag on the white board for the drawing. After we have done the drawing, the students can get their book bag and put their planner and purple folder inside. Students are to line up in two single file lines and I walk them to the door.

My Action Plan
A. Minor Disruptions My discipline for this is a warning first to give the students a chance to fix their behavior. If the behavior continues, I will go over and cross off a smiley on their desk. I will be sure to go over to the student and tell why I crossed off a smiley. This will show that I am still paying attention to behavior while teaching and gave the student a chance to fix it. B. On going discipline issues My discipline for this is I would write a note in the students planner. If it still continues, I would make a call to the parent. This would be contacting the parent to let them know what is going on. I would explain the issue so they are aware and get their involvement. C. Aggressive and violent behaviors My discipline for this is I will follow and support the principals actions. I would send a note with the student saying what happened. I would also send a note home through email to the parents so they are aware.
