Effects Debate-The effects of advertising, of exposure to explicit sexual or violent content.

The columbine massacre- this is a story of 2 children based in Jefferson county Colorado, killing 3 people and injuring 23 others, due to shootings going on in the school by these two young boys, the press where quick to jump to conclusions about the style of music and video games to blame. The two boys were related to the Goth culture, the media headlines were "Killers Worshipped Rock Freak Manson" and "Devil-Worshipping Maniac Told Kids To Kill, Other bands include Rammstien and KMFDM, many came to believe that Manson's music and imagery were, indeed, Harris and Klebold's sole motivation, despite later reports that the two were not fans. Mansons band however still changed the name of his tour name in respect for the fans. The Goth culture or dark music culture is often shown with guns and depictures violence, but people are quick to jump to conclusions, as it is in fact against usage of weapons and is often against violence entirely. Wintery knight forum from the daily mail news- children who watch sexual content have se at an earlier age- Excerpt: Children who watch films with a high sexual content tend to lose their virginity earlier and have more partners, a study has found. Not only are they more promiscuous, they are also more likely to engage in risky sex by not using condoms. The six-year study of more than 1,200 teens refers to sexual content in films. [...]The study on the effect on younger teenagers of sex in films was published in Psychological Science, the peer-reviewed journal of the Association for Psychological Science. Researchers from Dartmouth College, an Ivy League university in the US, surveyed 684 top-grossing movies from 1998 to 2004, and then coded them for sexual content. A film such as Eyes Wide Shut would be coded highly, while Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King would get a low coding. Although some of the films had 18-ratings, they could have been seen by younger children on DVDs at home. The researchers then recruited 1,228 youngsters aged between 12 and 14, and each was asked which films on the list they had seen from a number of different collections of 50 that were randomly selected.

Six years later the same participants were surveyed to find out how old they were when they became sexually active and how risky their sexual behaviour might have been. The results indicated that exposure to sexual content in movies at an early age is likely to influence adolescents sexual behaviour.

The fright engendered by horror movies can have residual psychological effects for years. Two studies, "Tales from the Screen: Enduring Fright Reactions to Scary Media" and another, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), both concluded that exposure horror movies may have long-lasting adverse effects on children. Anxiety

The NIMH study reveals direct evidence that in children 5 and younger, especially toddlers, scary movies can produce acute cases of anxiety. The symptoms of this anxiety include sleeping disorders, aggressiveness and selfendangerment. Avoidance Both studies indicated that children exposed to horror films avoided real life situations shown in a fictional manner on screen. The subjects exhibited dread of facing those situations. Some children not only avoided real life situations, but also come to avoid seeing other movies or TV shows dealing with the same situations that instilled the original fear.
