SUMMARY
Geotechnical field tests characterize geotechnical subsurface conditions of a site. Characterization is done on a point/borehole basis. Subsurface conditions between boreholes need to be extrapolated from bore hole data. Geophysical tests characterize subsurface conditions on a 2-D planar basis. Geophysical tests can be used to supplement geotechnical field tests by providing a way of extrapolating geotechnical data between boreholes, as well as provide an idea of the spatial variation.
