Figurative Language: a form of language in which one thing is likened to another, e.g: The ground is thirsty. Metaphor: A form of figurative speech in which one thing is said to be another, e.g: A mighty fortress is our God. Simile: In which one object is likened to another through the use of words such as like and as, e.g: The sky was as blue as cornflowers. Personification: A language device wherein inanimate or non-human objects are given human-like qualities, e.g: The trees whispered. Synecdoche: Hyperbole: A form of exaggeration, e.g: The fish was bigger than a house. Metonymy: Symbol: Antithesis: Allusion: Connotation: Denotation: Melodic Devices Assonance: Repetition of vowel sounds within words. Alliteration: Repetition of vowel or consonant sounds at the beginning of words. Consonance: Repetition of consonant sounds within words.

Cacophony: A combination of sounds that overall produces an unpleasant jumble of noises. Euphony: A combination of sounds that harmonize to produce a melody or pleasant sound.
