Comments/Remarks Mr- Wilson provided the following information.
- The Department of Justice, NIST, and State will issue their joint report on the use of biometric technologies in screening visa 0 applicants by the date specified in the USA PATRIOT Act and the Border Security Act—November 2002. (Note: See w/p CRS-2/4 p. 9 and CRS-2/7 p.9 for the report deadline.) - In order to complete the joint report, NIST is preparing three separate technical reports on (1) face recognition; (2) fingerprinting verification and identification; and (3) a fingerprinting algorithm similar to that employed by the FBI, based on results of an algorithm developed by Lockheed Martin and a Mitre report completed a year ago. NIST should have these three reports completed by mid- October 2002.
