Luciano Pavarotti was born on October 12, 1935, in Modena, Italy.

He was the first child and only son of two children in the family of a baker. His father was a gifted amate r tenor, who instilled a lo!e for m sic and singing in yo ng " ciano. His mother worked at the local cigar factory. #o ng $a!arotti showed many talents. He first sang with his father in a male choir in Modena, and won the first %ri&e in an international choir com%etition in 'ales, (). He also %layed soccer as a goalkee%er for his town*s + nior team. He re%eated this feat in his legendary 1932 Met %erformance and was nicknamed 5)ing of the High 6*s5 in ra!e re!iews. $a!arotti*s %o% larity was arg ably bigger than that of any other li!ing tenor in the world. His 1993 li!e %erformance in the :ew #ork*s 6entral $ark was attended by 522,222 fans while millions watched it on tele!ision. " ciano $a!arotti was also known for his h manitarian work. In March 222, $a!arotti ga!e his last %erformance in an o%era. He died of kidney fail re on Be%tember 0, 2223, at home in Modena, Italy, where he was s rro nded by his family. He was laid to rest with his %arents in the family tomb in cemetery near Modena. His f neral ceremony in Modena was an international e!ent attended by celebrities and o!er fifty tho sand m sic lo!ers from all o!er the world.
