Compare/Contrast Essay
by Chris Gaillard

I have been brought to my knees from both good and bad situations. We all go through trauma in our lives and if you haven't yet, consider yourself lucky. Those traumas change your life in a way you can not believe. Only the strongest are able to get back up on their feet and move forward.

Some people are ust built that way. They run towards the fire and the screams. !or a long period of time, I thought I lost that. It ust took me a little bit longer to get back up.

". It took me some time to come up with a topic that I wanted to write about. I did not want to write about something that did not interest me. So I decided to come up with ideas about the military. !rom there it went to the different wars that the #nited States has been apart of. I finally came to the conclusion to do the two biggest wars that the #nited States has been apart of. Those being World War one and World War two. $. What I want the reader to see in this piece is that the #nited States played a big part in winning both of theses wars. Without them, the landscape of the whole world would be different. I also want them to see that the #nited States did not want to go to war either time. They had no choice in the matter. %. I mainly used internet sources for this article. &owever I did use a lot of knowledge that I have in this article. I was a big history buff in high school and I still love to learn about history. '. I use a (acbook and it saves my files to a word document. I am not sure if it messes with the spacing or not by doing so. I noticed in the rough draft you returned to me, the work citied page was not lined up at the top of the page.

Some of them involve the countries that were involved, and even where some parts of the wars were taken place. &owever the biggest part of theses wars, was the impact the #nited States made on both of them. The countries that fought on the same side in WWI fought on the same side in WWII for the most part. The attack on +earl &arbor was the biggest attack on #.S. soil up until the attack that happened on September ""th, $..". There were several turning points in both wars that were in favor the the 5llies winning the wars. 1uring World War I, the armistice that was signed in "/"2 was the turning point of that war. 5 few months later they signed a treaty called the Treaty of Gersailles 89World War I:;. 5s a result *ermany had to take responsibility for the war and had to pay $$B billion <eichsmarks in reparations which was later reduced to "%$ billion 89World War I:;. *ermany also lost ten percent of its territory because of the treaty. 1uring World War II, there were two big turning points in the war. The first one was 17 1ay on 4une Bth, "/''. The 5llies attacked several beaches that they had codenamed, *old, 4uno, Sword, #tah, and Omaha. 5ll of the beaches were in 0ormandy. 5ll of the beaches went as planned with the e6ception of Omaha. This took *ermany out of the war and left 4apan to fight for themselves. ,y the time the *ermans were out of the war, the #nited States had finished the (anhattan +ro ect. This pro ect ended the war and has been very controversial. The #nited States successfully built an atomic bomb. The #nited States wanted 4apan to surrender but they would not. were over %3.,... people that lived in the city. The #nited States dropped the atomic bomb labeled as 9Hittle ,oy: on the city. -ven with the atomic bomb going off, 4apan would not surrender. So the #nited States would drop another atomic bomb that was called 9!at (an.: This time the target was a city called 0agasaki. 5fter this attack, 4apan surrender on 5ugust "3, "/'3. They did not formally sign agreement until September $nd. 1uring the two wars, there was different weaponry that was used. The biggest difference would be the nuclear bombs that were used in World War II. In both wars they used similar weaponry. They used everything from rifles, pistols, tanks, grenades, and even flamethrowers and bayonets 8Hlewellyn, Southey, and Thompson;. 1uring World War I they used some type of gas in the trenches. Overall the two wars had a lot of the same countries involved. The death tolls in both wars were far too high. So many good men and woman were lost in both of the wars. The 9good: sides won both of the World Wars and the #nited States did not get involved until they were directly threatened or attacked. The #nited States played a huge role in helping win both of the wars as well. Without the #nited States, all of -urope would have been taken over by the *ermans and the 5merican people may even be speaking *erman instead of -nglish. 5fter the big wins of the two World Wars, the #nited States became a big power house as far as armies go. Instead of sitting back and waiting for something to happen, the #nited States goes in head first. 0o longer are they sitting back, they are taking action when action is needed.
