NAGOYA, JAPANStructures in Confined Plasmas
—— Proceedings of Workshop of US-Japan
Joint Institute for Fusion Theory ProgramA workshop on in Confined Plasmas " was held at
Institute of Plasma Physics, Nagoya University on the 13th - 16th of
March, 1989. Participating in the workshop were 8 US participants ( W.
Horton, A.M. Dimits, R. Dominguez, F. Driscoll, 7. S$. Hahm, A.
Hasegawa, P. Lyster and P. J. Morrison ), Asse. Prof. J. Liu from
Peoples Republic of China and 18 Japanese speaker-participants with 12
additional Japanese participants. The present workshop is the seventh
workshop on a series of workshops on statistical physics problem in
fusion plasmas, organized by the JIFT program since 1981.
The specific topics of the present workshop was the mechanisms by
which the selforganization into coherent structures through nonlinear
interactions. The contributions to the workshop proceedings are divided
into seven sections : I - Yortex Structures in Two-Fluid Plasmas ; lI-
Temperature Gradient. Modes ; III - Structures in One-Fluid Plasmas ; IV
~ Structures in Vlasov Plasmas ; V - Vortex Structures in Fluids; VI
~ Hybrid Code-Particle Electron and Fluid Ion ; VII - Basic Theories.
We are greatly indebted to Profess W. Horton of the University of
Texas at Austin for serving as a US coordinator of the workshop, and
would Like to thank the staff of Institute of Plasma Physics, especial-
ly Professor Y. H. Ichikawa and Professor T. Kamimura.
