Jersan Kannady Interview LaTara Newell For my interview, I chose LaTara Newell as my subject.

She is a 26-year-old student at this university, and she suffers from ADHD. Upon receiving consent, I contacted her to meet with her and began the interview. I began with asking her when she was diagnosed, what was the exact diagnosis, and, if she could recall, how she felt and how she received the news. She was diagnosed with H.I., and she explained that it stood for hyperactive impulsive. She told me that she was not diagnosed until she was eight years old, and upon learning about her disability, she felt as though she was inadequate and dumb. She told me that Being so young and inexperienced about what ADHD means, I was afraid that I couldnt be successful. At a young age, she was discouraged and confused because she was labeled and did not truly understand what was wrong with her. After the first questions, I asked her how her disability affected her daily life today. She told me that it makes it somewhat difficult to remain focused in class when given instruction, especially if the subject does not interest her. She also told me that making friends was not as easy as it may be for other people because she has tendencies and habits that people may find annoying. Im always tapping my feet and drumming my fingers. Not only did she have trouble inside of the classroom, but she also faced social and bonding issues. The next question was concerning what effect, if any, her disability has had on her physical fitness, or her performance in physical education classes. She mentioned that although her disability has not greatly affected her ability to perform physical activity, it does affect her

ability to focus when being taught a certain skill. Outside of the classroom, when it comes to physical activity, she was not so disabled, and felt very comfortable with her peers. My final question for LaTara was about how she was able to control her hyper activeness. She explained to me about how when she was younger, she found that other kids her age found her annoying when she found herself unable to control her foot tapping and noisemaking. In order to improve her social life, she did her best to minimize her habits, and her medication also assisted her in her focus and with her hyper activeness.
