Operate knowledge of media literacy terms Materials Needed: Laptop Projector Procedures/Instructional Strategies I. Bridge [5 mins.] Do Now: Get a classroom set textbook from the back shelf. [The Dragon, p. 313317] Steps [84 mins.] 1) Root Square Quiz [15 mins.] Students will take the root square quiz, and turn them into the appropriate file tray. If students finish early, they may engage in SSR. 2) The Dragon Handout [25 mins.] In preparation for an upcoming field trip to the Paramount Theater to see Ray Bradburys Fahrenheit 451, students have read an interview with Bradbury that built their background knowledge on his beliefs as a writer who craves real human interaction and values original methods (i.e., paper and pen versus computer). Students have also been reading a couple of short stories to accustom themselves to Bradburys science fiction style of writing. The Dragon is a graphic short story that gives students an opportunity to view his work from a visual arts perspective. Students will work on the handout individually for approximately 12 minutes. Then they will have 5 minutes to discuss with a neighbor. Afterwards, I will gather the class together, and we will discuss the
