WVCSOs: VA.O.AH.4.2 research styles and/or periods of art and summarize or reconstruct as a product or presentation. 2. Objectives: The students will identify Renaissance artists and their paintings by completing a concept map that shows individual artists, an example of their work and the date that the artist worked in. The students will choose two artists from each of the three periods of the Renaissance. 3. 21st Century Themes: Global Awareness and Civic Literacy 4. 21st Century Learning Skills and/or Tools: Information, Media and Technology Skills. Creativity. 21C.O.5-8.1.TT7 Student uses advanced features and utilities of presentation software (e.g., design templates, design layouts (fonts/ colors/backgrounds) animation and graphics, inserting pictures, objects, movies, sound, charts, hyperlinks, and graphs) to create an original product _____________________________________________________________________________ 5. Teacher Materials: Projector (SMART board), computer with Kidspiration software. Student Materials: Computers with Kidspiration software and an Internet connection. 6. Technology components: Kidspiration, Google Images, Google Search 7. Teaching Methods and Critical Thinking Components: Whole group class discussion at the beginning and the end of the lesson, guided demonstration and individual work with teacher assistance. 8. Learning Activities: Start by asking the class what they know about the Renaissance and have a short class discussion. Explain in broad terms what the Renaissance was and the dates of the three time periods (Early, High and Late) .(5 minutes) Have students access their computers and have them open Kidspiration . (5 minutes) Show the students how to start a Concept Map. The teacher demonstrates how to create the center bubble of the map (labeled Renaissance Art). Then the teacher will show students how to perform a Google Search and how to use Google Images. Then the

teacher will give an example of the Concept Map as it pertains to the Renaissance ( using Google Images, Google Search and Kidspiration.) (10 minutes.) The students will produce the Concept Map individually. They will be responsible for two artists from each of the three time periods. If they finish early they are to continue working by finding an additional artist from each of the three time periods. The teacher will walk around the classroom monitoring progress and answering questions.( 30 minutes.) Class discussion of artists the students found in their research and which paintings they liked. (8 minutes) Return computers and save work. (2 minutes). 9. Modifications: For a student with a reading disability I feel that they would have little problems navigating this lesson because of the visual nature of the lesson. For a student with ADD I would keep the student on task guided by step by step instruction. ________________________________________________________________________
