For our parent literacy night we will cover the importance of literature in a young childs life. How starting off at an early age can set a stepping stone in a childs education. Why it is important for parents to read to their child every night . We will be discussing that children learn how to speak, & how they can expand their vocabulary through literature. How parents can implement reading every day. Finally resources In where they can get books. We want the parents to understand that starting off at an early age can set a stepping stone in a childs education. By introducing literature in an early age you can expand a childs vocabulary. They will also get to love books and soon be interested in their meaning. Studies show that by the time children are in third grade if they havent learned how to read or have trouble reading they will have a hard time in their future education, therefore more likely to drop off. Once a child enjoys reading they will be interested in writing and will be willing to learn how to write. Young children have a brain like a sponge they can absorbed information faster then any older child or grown up. Thats why it is imperative to teach children to love literature. As a parent reading to a child every night for a minimum of 20 minutes can make a difference. Parents also need to make reading fun in order for their child to enjoy reading. Introduce puppets, do not speak in a monotone, encourage child to use their imagination, and for older preschoolers start tracing the words as you read. This means read and trace the words as you read with your finger. Read with excitement and overall have fun reading if a child sees you enjoying the reading it is more likely they will enjoy it as well. By attending literacy night parents will get information about libraries, Places in which they can buy cheap books such as the dollar store or bargain book stores. By attending this night they will leave with more knowledge about the importance of literacy in a young childs life The learning outcome will be language development in the creative curriculum goals and objectives. By speaking to the parents hopefully children can increase their language, reading and writing development. We will be providing pamphlets with information. Some pamphlets will have the list of libraries near their homes. Also the libraries top picks of books for young children. We will also be providing websites they can visit for more information. We will also be providing numbers where their kids can get an early free literacy screening. We will inform parents through fliers. We will give them a month in advance warning and will be reminding them when they pick up their children. We will entice the parents by giving them a goody bag. In the goody bag we will give pamphlets, pencils, and they will be able to take home their picture frame along with the pottery their children made. We will also be providing food.. During the beginning of the night the children will be able to go to the big motor room along with the assistant teacher and play while the parents listen to the lecture. The

parents and head teachers will be discussing the importance of early child literacy. Also the teachers will be providing information the parents can use and answering any questions or concerns parents have towards literacy. AT that time the children will be painting some pottery that will be provided to them as an incentive for them to take home. The assistant teachers will be with the children at all times while the head teachers will be with the parents. After the discussion and lecture is over parents, teachers, and students will be eating in a family style dinner. Afterwards the families will take a family portrait that the teachers will take and print out for them. While they wait for their pictures to print out the families will be making picture frames for their picture. All materials will be provided by the teachers. Mostly all decorations will be from the center. Things that we already have in order to save cost. Once done they will have a picture frame with their picture to take home. We will also be distributing their goody bags for they can place their items that were given to them in it. In order to make up for some of the cost we will be selling taffy apples two weeks before, during and 2 weeks after the parent night.
