1) These lessons directly reflect the idea of the Jigsaw model.

Lesson 1 promotes developing research skills and evaluating student and group progress with teacher observation and monitoring. Lesson 2 is very detailed and organized in a format that is consistent with a typical lesson plan. Lesson 2 promotes social interaction skills and critical thinking skills. Teacher from Lesson 2 recognizes the importance of making the content relevant to the students lives and relating new content to background knowledge and previous experiences. Lesson 1 is the only model that has any real weaknesses. It is very general and pretty much has no detail, except for the fact that students will be learning about the Civil War. It addresses all of the aspects of Jigsaw, but it is too broad. 2) Each lesson plan discusses how students will be assigned into groups that will do specific research on a topic and then teach one another. They both use the motivating effects of the students becoming experts on a given topic. Social interaction and interpersonal skills are a huge aspect of this model. Lesson 2 notes how these behaviors will be met with the lesson. Lastly, teacher preparation is key for this model to be effective. Lesson 2 notes on preparation of lesson, specifically with materials being ready and accessible. 3) The main deviation from the Jigsaw model is shown in Lesson 2. In this lesson, after the students research the topic and discuss it in their regular groups and expert groups, then the class comes back as a whole and has a group discussion. In this group discussion, the teacher and students also discuss how well the model worked and how they can improve in the future with their group work skills. 4) I would not change much to Lesson 2 because I believe it is organized and well thought out. I would change Lesson 1 to make it more specific. I would outline how I am going to

prepare for the lesson ahead of time, like Lesson 2. I would make sure that I would give specific, clear directions to the students on how this model was going to be carried out.
