Teaching Philosophy Being an advocate about progressivism education, I support the beliefs that the learning of students occurs

in a well centered critical learning environment. In which, teachers should help children develop the skills in critical thinking problems, ongoing feedback, and educating to the specific needs of the child. Each individual idea is of importance because it involves real world experience. This creates my ideal philosophy of education based off of these core beliefs. My personal philosophy is that I believe teachers are the role models that shape the future of children and thereby its the duty of teachers is to create a classroom environment that is creative and non-biased. I feel that teachers need to have the ability to be creative. Creative not artistically but the skill of being innovative in new teaching methods that addresses the needs of the child. Children learn in different ways, which is why it is important to have a variety of methods that involves critical thinking and real world problem solving ideas. For instance one method of creative thinking can be used in the subject of elementary mathematics, when students learn the concept of addition. Normally a problem can be taught by writing a problem on the board and show how to carry the ones to the next place value. The problem can be solved in a different way by using visuals and models of the numbers they are trying to add while making a connection to the concept of how they need to exchange or carry the ones to the next place value. Creativity is the key for problem solving. Children use reasoning and experimentation and take risks using materials in different ways to make connections to the problem they are trying to solve. This use of role modeling will aid individual thought and expression towards free discussion and classroom participation and they will express more of what they know.

In addition to problem solving, decision making and cooperative learning can also occur in groups or with peers. As a role model, the teacher needs to support and provide these opportunities. The teacher is the prime example of a director and facilitator, one that guides and participates in the classroom. One reason I have for entering the field of education is because I want to be a teacher who is responsibly creative and encourages students positively just how I had with my own experiences in education before me. There are many different subjects and a variety of topics to teach. I want to allow for multiple skills with not just standard test, but with modeling. The teacher will allow for the modeling of the childs progress throughout the year. In that modeling and progress the teacher will address and accommodate to needs of that particular student. I believe a teacher also needs to provide a non-biased learning environment. This reason I stress the most because fair learning should occur in a place of learning and in everyday life. A teacher should not pick favorites or discriminate to any student, parent, or co-worker. Learning should be able to occur adeptly, for this to occur the inclusion of all students is vital because all ideas are of value and worth learning about, it will also encourage participation. In addition, the classroom should be diverse and each culture should be equally represented throughout the classroom. For a start, it begins with classroom displays. Posters or bulletin boards should reflect cultures with respect and dignity for each and not provide the stereotypical posters. An instance of this is with such occupations of a nurse typically being female and a police officer who is typically male. It is important to eliminate stereotypes and have pictures switch gender roles with a male nurse and a female police officer in addition to the original representation. It is important for that learning environment to be open and fully fundamental to everyone. This also includes culture and holidays. Eliminate cultural bias and hate in the classroom. Focus the curriculum on

not just one point of view, but from two or more point of views. Allow for discussion and openness for everyone to discuss their opinions and how they feel or think about it collaboratively. Make the environment one that is free to feel comfortable to learn. As a role model these traits would make anyone feel comfortable to be in a class that includes and make them feel more welcoming and students know that you are willing to let them in and participate, learn ,access and join. Not one child is singled out from their needs and each child is included in the process as a unique whole. The classroom is not conforming to an ideal as one but one that is developing and enriching students individually. Teachers are typically role models who students look up to. My experience in education has driven me to be a positive role model due to fact that a teacher who particularly influenced me was kind, and paid attention to what went on in the classroom, and took the time to help. My teacher was my role model which I aspire to be like. A good teacher is one who takes the time to mentor and makes themselves available as well as being willing to help any child improve. A teacher who has a well-rounded idea of what goes on in the classroom is important. The teacher has well classroom management techniques and also monitors students interactions and behaviors of other students. A teacher who is kind to students makes a difference on the environment and students lives. Being kind shows a responsible attitude towards caring and knowing that teachers are spending their time focusing on their classroom. Giving new techniques, showing by example that the environment is one of respect and a place of learning, as well as being a kind and compassionate teacher is my future goal for my classroom and is the core beliefs of my philosophy.
