Name: Jodi Wagenaar Id# 4187981 Teacher: Manuela Keeler Date: Nov,15/13 Course:Physc 100

Research Question: Is social networking affecting face to face interactions in todays society? Would people rather communicate via the internet or face to face?

Hypothesis: I believe that doing this research will show that people who use a lot of social networking loose the face to face interaction and would rather communicate over a social networking site. Going over previous research methods I have learned that they have also chosen to use a survey as the best option to conduct this study. Upon review there had been mixed out comes however I believe that a study in todays society will lean more towards the use of social networking.

Research Study
I have chosen to use a survey as my research method. This survey will act like any other survey that has been done where there will be a random assignment used. Anyone who wishes to participate in this survey is able to and the more people to participate the more results and analysis can be achieved. People will take a survey and answer the questions to the best of their ability and return them directly to me. I will not be observing them answer the questions and they can return it to me by placing the answered survey on the table.

My Results
I have found through my results that there are still a lot of people that do enjoy that face to face interaction. My outcome was that more people use social media in a day then talking to people face to face or even over the telephone. I believe that I achieved these results because in todays society people have become so accustomed to the computer and have to use it every day for school work or pleasure. People that may have issues being able to express themselves or they may be introverted feel more comfortable behind a screen and being able to talk freely without judgement against them. The internet is also a faster way to connect with people which may be beneficial to someone who has a busy schedule. I believe that my results supported my hypothesis because I based my hypothesis on what I see everyday around me. I know for the many people that are in my generation that computers and social networking have become a part of life to us; we almost get worried if we do not have these types of accesses that we could be missing out on something. There are many limitations and factors that could affect my experiment and make it not 100 percent accurate. The questions could have been too broad or specify which did not give people the opportunity to explain themselves. There was also the factor that I only had about 25% of the surveys returned to me which does not give me a wide variety of results. There are also many factors to do with peoples lives. Maybe someone is here just for schooling and they have no family and friends around at this time and that would be why social media is the best option for them because face to face is not possible. There are a lot of factors when you do a

survey that you may not get totally accurate information because people could just lie and you cannot get every ones opinion.
