Process Paper I did my 2013 history fair project on the civil rights act of 1964. Choosing this topic was a tough process, i went through many different prior topics before finally coming to choose the civil rights act of 1964. At first i chose the civil rights movement but apparently that topic is too broad and not specific enough, causing me to finally choose the civil rights act of 1964 as my topic. This topic relates directly to the them of "Rights and responsibilities". The civil rights act of 1964 legally granted equal rights to all citizens of the United States, which clearly directly relates to the topic of "Rights and Responsibilities".

Research was done trying to learn as much about every aspect of the civil rights movement along with learning about the actual civil rights act of 1964. I figured the more i knew on the subject of the civil rights movement in the United States, the better understanding i would have of the civil right act of 1964, and a better understanding of how my topic relates to the theme of "rights and responsibilities", the better my project was going to be. I started by researching topics such as segregation, desegregation and racial segregation among other terms. I also looked into civil rights leaders and their efforts towards achieving equality in the United States. Some of these leaders include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr , Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks. I tried to include as much pictures in my project as i could so i could better illustrate the civil rights movement and the causes and effects for the Civil Rights Act Of 1964.

I tried organizing my project in chronological order on my website, first by introducing the Civil Rights Act, but then explain how and why the bill was introduced to congress then how and when it was enacted into law by president Lyndon B. Johnson. From there i went on to explain the people, and events that had contributed to the passing of the bill, and the effects the bill and its laws had on the country and society, before finally coming to my conclusion.

During the process of completing my entire project i learned a lot. I was surprised to find out all the things i did about the civil rights movement and things like racial segregation and discrimination. Equality was a huge moral issue in our country back then and the civil right act is exactly what we needed as a society to become better as a country. I learned how the civil rights act and the rights it granted and what did, directly relates to the theme of "rights and responsibilities". The civil rights act was huge in shaping and forming the society we live in

today. The world would be very different then it is now if it were not for the passing of the Civil Rights Act Of 1964.
