Standard 2: Content Teachers know and understand the content are for which they have instructional responsibility. Strengths and Weaknesses Goals for Student Teaching I know the American Government material which I am teaching to the students, and it was my highest scoring subject on the Praxis II examination. While American Government was my strongest subject area, I am weak in knowing the amendments to our Constitution. Within my lessons, I use content-specific materials and instructional strategies almost on a daily basis. Whether it be political cartoons or videos about the topic, students are able to use those resources to gain a better understanding of the topic. It also allows me to convey the central concepts of the topic in a variety of formats. Incorporating these materials into EVERY lesson is a challenge, so far, these materials have come about in only about half the lessons. All of the lessons I have taught and created follow the ONLS for American Government syllabi. Conveying to the students what standard we are covering during a particular To learn the amendments to the US Constitution and to become better equipped to answer student questions on those amendments.

2.1 Teachers know the content they teach and use their knowledge of content-specific concepts, assumptions, and skills to plan instruction.

2.2 Teachers understand and use contentspecific instructional strategies to effectively teach the central concepts and skills of the discipline.

To incorporate these strategies more into my lessons so that they appear in EVERY lesson that I make, and to keep on including these resources into those lessons.

2.3 Teachers understand school and district curriculum priorities and the Ohio academic content standards.

To keep on tying lessons and test questions to the content standards and to make it more clear to the students what standard we are covering in the lesson/unit.

lesson/unit.

2.4 Teachers understand the relationship of knowledge within the discipline to other content areas.

I understand and incorporate the necessary skills needed to succeed in most of the other disciplines. Skills such as discussion, inference, analyzing, and others can be used in other disciplines. I have not been able to convey to the students that these skills can be used in all disciplines. Within my unit on American Political Parties, I used materials that would help the students find out which party they belonged to on certain issues, and to which party they agreed with more overall. Can use more resources, materials, and sources which will connect more to student's lives and career goals.

I will continue to incorporate these necessary skills into my lessons, which students will be able to use in multiple disciplines. I will also make the students aware of the connection between the skills learned in the SS classroom to the skills needed in other disciplines.

2.5 Teachers connect content to relevant life experiences and career opportunities.

I will strive to incorporate more current events and topics relevant to the student's lives in the future lessons that I teach.
