This can also be used for students who are in the general education program but still lack social adequacy. Students need to be successful in direct instruction and responding to adult cues to gain the knowledge from this program. Transition needs addressed: This book categorizes its skills into five categories: cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy, and self-control (CARES). These five types of skills are necessary as a student is entering the workforce or a post-secondary educational experience. Some of these skills may include following rules and directions, willingness to ask for assistance, taking care of items, showing concern for others, or compromising. Other features: This book is a step-by-step process for teaching students about their social skills. It resembles a literary basal, and this is the teachers manual for the product. Students will receive direct instruction on a specific social skill, and then be expected to apply it through written, verbal, or dramatic expression. Finally, teachers review and give assignments so students can further internalize their new social skills.

It is also suitable for outside of school programs such as a group home or after-school care program. An assessment is included to level the students initial social skills. Students will need these skills as they enter the workforce and begin to live on their own, especially when it comes to handling feelings, working well with others, and managing time and money effectively. Other features: This book is all perforated worksheets, making curriculum building very simple. Some sheets are simply filled with facts on a social skill, some are worksheets, and some are take-home sheets to review with an adult at home. These skills are on track after completing book A, and will lead to success in adult life.
