Overview of Projects for Administrative Internship EDUC 6331

Area of concern There is not enough parent support for ELL (English as a Second Language Learners) students. Needs Assessment The campus parent phone logs and parent meetings logs show that there is not much communication between teachers and parents of ELL students. Action Plan Since the common language spoken by ELL parents is Spanish, a translator will be provided for parent meetings. Also, a translated phone conversation that teachers can use for calling parents will be created. Last, an information board for ELL parents will be created. Evaluation Achieving parent support is an ongoing process that takes time. At the end of the year, an evaluation will be made to determine if parent support for ELL students has increased. Both parent phone logs and parent meeting logs will be looked at again to help determine this.

The district needed a new ELA curriculum that would better prepare students to score high on the STAAR End of Course English I Exam.

The STAAR EOC English I results from 2013 were analyzed and it was determined that a revised curriculum was needed.

After a team of teachers developed a Scope and Sequence, the teacher created lesson plans and presented them to the team so that they would be used by all teachers as well as placed on curriculum corner.

The 2014 STAAR English I results will be analyzed to determine if the new curriculum improved student understanding and scores.

In addition to a Saturday work day the staff needed to obtain 3 additional work hours. The administration needed a way to assign and record the time worked by each staff member. An individual group of students was not getting the necessary support needed in order to succeed in school.

The administration looked at the hours that would be worked by staff and saw that they would need additional hours.

Staff was assigned a specific Saturday work day as well as 3 additional hours in a specific after school tutorial session.

A staff sign in sheet as well as a spreadsheet kept of hours worked ensured all staff met the required work hours.

Community in Schools looked at student grades, behavior, and areas of concern I.e. pregnancy to decide which students needed additional support.

A support group was created to give students additional resources that were not provided in the classroom.

Students' grades and discipline were reviewed at the end of the year to determine if the support group had been beneficial.
