Fuentes English 1101 31 October 2013 Progress Memo Discourse Community Ethnography

The discourse community I chose is the soccer community. I plan to watch the mens soccer game that is this Saturday. I will pay attention to the dialect and lexis that they use during the game. I have played soccer ever since I was about 4 years old so I have a pretty good understanding of the game. Since I am a soccer player I have an idea of how the results are going to turn out, but I have not played in a since March of 2013 so the discourse could have changed since then. I plan on having all my research collected by this weekend, so I have time to write and edit my paper next week. In my final paper, I plan on teaching my audience the different dialect used between the soccer communities. To collect this information I will interview members of the UNC Charlotte soccer team and some others who just play on intermural team to see if there is a difference between the two. I will also list the main goals and shared interests of the community. When the reader is done reviewing my paper, I hope they have a better understanding of the game of soccer, and the language used between the players.
