(DRDP: COG4) Children will know that mixing colors will make a new color. (DRDP: COG4) Children will learn to communicate without words, using their artwork. (DRDP: SSD1/2)

Materials needed: -clay, -paint, -sponges, -brushes Preparation: I will need to teach them about lizard, snake, and bird eggs. They will learn the different sizes of the three egg types. I will use books and pictures to show them the main differences. Procedures: *Beginning: After showing them the difference of each egg, I will tell them that they will make their own eggs out of clay.

You will use clay to mold three eggs. One for a lizard, another for a snake, and another for a bird. You will also decorate the eggs with paint.

For the egg making activity you will need to use clay and paint. You can use your fingers to apply paint but you can also use sponge squares or brushes.

Ill instruct the children to, Mold three eggs one for a lizard, a bird, and a snake in their correct sizes and shapes. Decorate with paint.

I will ask the children to, Keep clay and paint on table and only use your hands. Avoid touching face, mouth, and eyes. Wash hands if you need to scratch eyes.

I will start them off my asking, Are you all ready?! Okay lets all stand up, line up, and I will number you off. Go to the table with your number.

*Middle: I will support children using new materials by acknowledging how and which materials they use. I will ask open-ended questions such as, Which egg are you making first? Which is the biggest egg out of the three? Which materials are you using? How are you decorating each egg? What made you want to paint/draw this animal? I will encourage children to work together by saying, Each table has a set of sponges, brushes, paint, and clay. You will all share the tools/materials with the kids at your table so take turns and ask if you can use when someone is done. Work on another part of the egg while you wait for the specific material. I will acknowledge the work and progress of individual children and ask if they need my help. What are you drawing/painting? Why? Why did you choose to use this material? Why did you choose those colors?

*End: I will announce that everyone is finishing up so we will have five more minutes to complete the decorating. *Throughout the day, what opportunities will the children have to reflect on this activity? I will start off singing and have the children join me singing all-aboard-the-clean-up train. We will march along until everyone joins. I will have them start throwing away the trash and put away materials on each table. When done I will tell them to grab their clay and sit at the circle time area which leads to the next activity. Children will write their name of the white board to determine who will go first to present their clay eggs. This will give them the opportunity to reflect on what they did, how they did it, and what they learned.
