Manhattan College Education Department Name Marina Culhane Strengths Marina's descriptive writing lesson for the students in her grade 5 CIT class was very well planned and extensively prepared. Abundant support materials were created, secured, and utilized to provide the students with an enriched learning experience. The lesson elements were logically ordered and cohesive, and the lesson presentation was well conducted. Prior knowledge was activated; key terms reviewed; visualizations employed with well constructed and delivered read aloud passages, and effective modeling occurred. A 'turn and talk' and share engaged the students'; a graphic organizer aided their writing; instructions were clearly delivered; a well defmed rubric prepared; differentiated groups established; students' efforts monitored and facilitated, and an effective closure/share conducted. Throughout the lesson, Marina displayed positive rapport with her students and cooperating teachers, and used praise to recognize and promote student efforts. Marina's well written lesson reflection, was thoughtful and comprehensive in its discussion of the lesson outcomes. Date 9/25/13

Areas needing improvements/suggestions In our post observation conference we discussed: Add "visualization" to the key terms in your lesson plan (you wrote 'mental image'). As you wrote in your reflection, less' complex' pictures may have better served the lower achieving students in developing their paragraphs, but for a first lesson presentation, you handled the challenges of a CIT classroom very well.
