Lesson

Lesson Objectives

Assessments Pre: Before reading, ask students the things they can remember about plants: What do they need? How do they get the things they need? Determine what students can recall about basic needs and/or if the content needs to be reviewed. During: The students will participate in seed planting movement activity. Guided discussion and events that happen to our flowers should help students recall knowledge. Post: The students will have a wrap-up discussion recalling the needs of a plant. Students will illustrate and write a sentence reflecting the lesson. (Students drawings should include a form of water, plenty of space, the sun, open air, and grass, and sentence.

Accommodations

Lesson Two: Basic Needs of a Plant

Students will be able to recall the basic needs (5) of a plant for energy, growth, and sustainable life (including air, water, nutrients, space, and light.)

During: Anecdotal notes and observations; Assessment Chart

For students with special needs: I will help guide students through the activity and directions they do not understand. This way I can reassure that they understand the purpose of the lesson. For early finishers: Early finishers will move on to their daily seat work, Odyssey at thee computers, or a designated center while guided reading groups are pulled. For slower-paced learners: Allowing students a few times to practice the poem and casually guided instruction, helps in a successful lesson.

Post: Completed illustrations and sentences will be used to assess students recollection of the basic needs of plants.

I will evaluate the pre-assessment by recording what students can recall about plant, and the basic needs of plants prior to the lesson and activity. I will guide students through the activity by asking students the things they can remember about plants: What do they need? How do they get the things they need? Anecdotal notes and comments are recorded to assess students ability to recall the basic needs of a plant before and during the lesson. I will evaluate the post-assessment by

the students completed writing and illustrations responding to the lesson. A rubric will be used to score the students post-assessment of the lesson. The anecdotal notes and comments documented before and during this lesson will be used to evaluate the level of knowledge students were able to recall on the basic needs of plants from kindergarten. Also, the post-assessment illustrations and writings will be scored for accuracy and knowledge gained from the lesson. This will allow me to identify the students who have mastered the basic needs of plant and can move on to plant structures, or if the class needs further review.
