Subject: Computers/Microsoft PowerPoint Grade Level: 7 Standards: Standard 2.16 Use hyperlinks in program applications Standard 2.21 Be able to work with two programs simultaneously Standard 2.14 Explore and apply menu functions across various applications Standard 2.11 Be able to access a specific website by typing in the URL under the direction of the teacher Standard 3.1 Use appropriate software to combine text and graphics Standard 5.3 Give proper credit for the sources of information Standard 5.7 Demonstrate knowledge of individual right of ownership of creative works by citing sources Objectives Student(s) will Continue using k8 computer connections learning environment to watch instructional videos and complete assignments Explore and apply menu functions of Microsoft PowerPoint Use the internet to research a country Create a PowerPoint slideshow on a country that is creative and informative Methods Anticipatory Set: Begin by showing students how to navigate k8 computer connections. Explain that k8 computer connections is an environment that they will be using to learn computer applications. Direct Teaching Method (Whole Class): 1. Students will type URL in their internet browser. 2. Guide students to the New User Registration where they will create a username and password. 3. Students will log in. 4. Demonstrate for students how to download assignment instructions for What A Country Were In! 5. Students will download their assignment instructions. 6. Instruct students to watch the the What A Country Were In! screencast and then start the assignment. Guided Practice (Individual Students): 1. Assist students in logging in, navigating k8 computer connections, and saving their assignment directions. 2. Assist students in uploading their completed assignment to k8 computer connections. Independent Practice: 1. Students work independently to complete their assignment. 2. Students create a new file in the My Pictures file on their computer. 3. Students create a new WORD document that will hold their research information. 4. Students access multiple websites to find maps and pictures of their country. 5. Students access multiple websites to find facts about their country. 6. Students put their pictures and facts into the What A Country Were In! PowerPoint template.

7. Encourage students to watch the screencast more than once, if necessary, to complete the assignment. Student Assessment/Reflections: 1. Completion of What A Country Were In! PowerPoint that has been uploaded to k8 computer connections. 2. Discussions with teacher and classmates regarding use of k8 computer connections and assignment likes/dislikes. 3. Sharing of What A Country Were In! presentations.
