About the course


This specialist qualication focuses on developing your knowledge of the different areas of employment within the vocational world of sport. This is a Level 3 Diploma, and we offer two options. The Single Award course is equivalent to one A Level qualication and takes two years to complete (one year for AS Level equivalent qualication). The Double Award course is equivalent to two A Level qualications and takes two years to complete. All students will be given the opportunity to coach and co-ordinate extra-curricular sports activities. This will then enable you to become part of The MFG Sports Leadership Academy, and participate in coaching teams and leading sports events with local primary schools.

How will I be assessed?


All units across both courses are assessed through coursework, which is internally marked and externally moderated. Assessment will take the form of presentations, written assignments and practical components.

Entry requirements: Course breakdown


Subsidiary Diploma (Single Award): Unit 1 - Principles of Anatomy and Physiology Unit 2 - Physiology of Fitness Unit 3 - Assessing Risk in Sport Unit 7 - Fitness Testing Unit 5 - Sports Coaching Unit 8 - Practical Team Sports Unit 11 - Sports Nutrition Diploma (Double Award): All of the above units plusUnit 4 - Fitness Training and Programming Unit 17 - Psychology for Sports Performance Unit 23 - Organising Sports Events Unit 6 - Sports Development Unit 18 - Sports Injuries Unit 22 - Rules, Regulations and Ofciating in Sport 5 x A*-C GCSE Grades.

If you are interested in the world of sport and wish to pursue a career in sport and its various related areas, then this is the course for you. Due the assessment requirements, good communication skills and the ability to meet deadlines are essential for success on this course.

Where can it take me?


It is ideal for anyone wishing to pursue a career in sport and its related fields, such as Sports Management, Community Services, Leisure Services and Education. The course provides a foundation for studying sport in further education or any of its related courses. Students who have successfully completed the course have gone on to study Sports Technology, Sport and Recreation, and Sport and Leisure.
