Leslie Bruce Depart of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics California State University, Fullerton Fullerton, CA 92834-9480 Dear Dr. Bruce, The cover letters intent is to present my academic achievement in writing by mastering the student learning outcomes (SLO) listed on the syllabus. I have rewritten and provided a final revision of my persuasive essay that I have chosen to use for my major assignment. I will use these document to prove to you that I have successfully accomplished and understood the SLOs by providing the evidence. The first document is my cover letter to cover the formal and the purpose of my audience for SLO 1. I have achieved this by writing formally in this cover letter and explaining to you the purpose of this cover letter by satisfying the student learning outcomes. This will show the competence of my writing and knock out the first SLO. The cover letter will also knockout SLO 5 by demonstrating the use of language and influence. I did that by expressing my accomplishment in the SLOs, which is explained in this cover letter. My second document provided is the informal, in-class, and out-of-class writing that I have done to show that I have been working on to begin my argumentative paper. This is where I have brainstormed and listed ideas on my notebook to approach my paper. Evidence is provided in a picture and document format so that you can see that I have done the work. To cover SLO 2 in my next document I have demonstrated the correct citation that I have made to show evidence for my argument. I have stated the authors name and correct use of quotes from the researchers by citing their work that is in my final revised essay. The same document will also cover SLO 3 and 4. SLO 3 requires me to compare and contrast arguments and claims objectively. I show evidence of an argument in the original work where you state that it was not an argument. I have revised it and provided a counterargument that swimmers do not breath under water, but above water they do. I have met this SLO in my major assignment by explaining the negative use of chlorine and the effectiveness of salt water. I was able to carefully state my counterarguments of why salt water is effective in the first body paragraph of my revised essay. It also covers SLO 4 that clearly communicates and persuasively addresses the rhetorical situation, which I have done in the introduction of my persuasive essay where I stated my thesis sentence to persuade the audience that chlorine water is bad and salt should be substituted. I was able to connect my thesis with my essay with the help of my topic sentences. In my original work you asked me to provide a paragraph about cancer, in which I have by talking about the risk of getting bladder cancer. This helped to organize my paper and let my audience understand the situation that I am addressing in my final revised essay. The original comment document is there to show you the changes that you had told me to make. To cover SLO 6 of improving ones own and others writing skills through the assessment and critique of written works. I have used the conference prep sheet to show you that Rami have reviewed and made suggestions of my work to strengthen the cover letter. For example he suggested that I should provide evidence for the counterarguments. I have done so by making a claim and providing evidence in the final revised essay. The last document is where I have used the cover letter review sheet to explain to him the strong and weak points of his letter. I have given him recommendations on how to improve his work and comments to cover the remaining SLOs. The document provides a highlight of what I thought Rami should fix for example developing a counterargument for his portfolio because he

chose to use his blog post as a major assignment. So I suggested to him look on the Titanium page to find what articles can help him to knockout that SLO. I hope that after reading this letter, you will understand that I have fully recognized and mastered the student learning outcomes. I believe that these outcomes have made me to become a better writer and understand the mistakes that I have made during this semester.
